Urban Equipe is an association that is committed to the democratization of urban development and design. Urban Equipe is organized as a non-profit association and as such is committed to its purpose in all its projects. To achieve its purpose, it initiates participatory projects, organizes knowledge exchange and carries out assignments in accordance with its purpose, with a focus on municipalities and civil society organizations in the field of urban development. Urban Equipe has been a Decidim partner since 2024.

Participatory Budgeting with Decidim
Urban Equipe has designed and implemented multiple participatory budgeting (PB) processes on Decidim, guiding both municipalities and communities through idea submission, evaluation, and voting.
A key project is Quartieridee Wipkingen, the first PB in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, run entirely through Decidim. Urban Equipe configured the platform, designed the PB workflow, supported communication and outreach, and ensured the process was transparent, inclusive, and easy for residents to participate in. This experience laid the foundation for Stadtidee Zürich, a city-wide PB also powered by Decidim. The project demonstrated Decidim’s scalability from neighborhood to city level, accompanied by multiple valuable learnings.
Since the projects in Zürich, we have been able to offer support for PBs in the City of Aarau, the City of Thun, where we conducted a PB focused on ideas tackling the climate crisis, and the City of Winterthur, where ideas strengthening the social fabric of the neighborhood were selected.
Product Owner & Platform Design for Decidim
Urban Equipe provides product ownership for Decidim platforms. Our most significant long-term reference is «Mitwirken an Zürichs Zukunft», the digital hub for public participation of the City of Zürich and a Decidim-based platform operated by Urban Equipe since 2021.
Our expertise includes:
- translating participatory formats into Decidim workflows,
- configuring and extending Decidim modules,
- coordinating development, UX, and design,
- managing backend operations and data protection compliance,
- ensuring accessibility and multilingual support,
- supporting communication teams with content structure.
Through this work, we have developed deep knowledge of Decidim’s architecture, capabilities, and constraints, and has advised public-sector partners on how to embed Decidim into their long-term participation strategies.
Coaching & Capacity Building for Decidim
Urban Equipe regularly trains and supports municipalities, organizations, and civic groups in using Decidim efficiently and in a self-organized manner.
Our coaching includes:
- advising teams on choosing the right Decidim components for their process,
- onboarding administrators and moderators,
- supporting content creation, moderation, and user management,
- guiding teams through the entire cycle from setup to evaluation,
- facilitating reflection sessions to improve future Decidim processes.
